WebGPU
1. Overview
The Runtime now fully supports WebGPU. WebGPU is the next-generation Web graphics and compute API. Compared with the traditional WebGL, WebGPU provides capabilities closer to the underlying hardware, while also supporting general-purpose computing (GPGPU), significantly improving graphics rendering and data processing performance.
The design of WebGPU draws on modern graphics APIs such as Vulkan, Metal, and Direct3D 12, offering higher performance, lower overhead, and better controllability.
2. Core Features
2.1 High Performance
- Lower driver overhead
- Less implicit state management
- More efficient resource scheduling
2.2 Explicit Control
- Explicit management of GPU resources (Buffer, Texture, etc.)
- Explicit command submission (Command Buffer)
- More predictable performance
2.3 Support for General-Purpose Computing
- Support for Compute Shader
- Applicable to scenarios such as AI, physics simulation, and data processing
2.4 Modern Graphics Pipeline
- Support for programmable rendering pipelines
- Shaders written in WGSL (WebGPU Shading Language)
